American Pennies

I'm teaching science at an international school, and I've found a pretty cool-sounding experiment where students use a file the edge off of an american penny and then use a certain acid to dissolve the inside of the penny.

This means I need a few rolls of mid-80s or later pennies from the US. I'm not certain about the composition of other coins, but the write-up I found seemed to suggest not many coins have the proper make-up besides US pennies.

So, if anyone knows if banks here would carry US pennies, or where I could get them, that help would be much appreciated!

I don't think you'll find banks holding coins in any oversaes currency. I've never come across a bank in any country that will accept coins when you take your foreign currency in to exchange it for the local (or any other) currency. You might be able to get the coins from a coin collector shop (there's one somewhere in TST altho' it's 3 years or so since I've seen it or heard of it - there must be others).

Thanks, TC.

I was 99% sure banks wouldn't carry pennies, but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. The coin collectors idea definitely sounds worth a try.

What about the US consulate or the HK International school? They have American employees there who cash their paychecks in HK and US dollars.
