There seems to be some problems with the Writer's formatting. It changes by itself everytime I save and then reopen the file! Any ideas why?

Your description of the problem is rather "sparse". I have been using OO as my main office suite for quite a while, both under windows and Linux and don't recall any problems with documents reformatting themselves upon saving/opening. I assume you are saving either to doc or odt format. I would recommend you try to do some google searches on the problem since it is unlikely that you are the only person using OO who is having the problem that you are experiencing. But, you will have to search with explicit, exact keywords. Good luck!

I know many people have the same problem. For example, point 2 in the following link says, "Opening existing Microsoft Word documents is not a problem, however if you save a document a document as a Word document which you have generated in OO you may have some different formatting if you then open it in Microsoft Word. This is easily overcome by sending documents that don't need to be edited as PDF files as PDF readers are free, and it prevents people editing your documents."

Unfortuantely, aside from the PDF solution, no one can tell me how to solve it! I am sending out my CV now, and some of the companies require me to send my CV in Words format (I wonder why though since they don't need to edit my CV!)

too lazy to get a pdf reader no doubt.
I had the same problem with OO when I first tried it out. Sad and sorry to say, I never worked out how to fix it and simply switched back to regular old office. A painful decision as I have little love for microsoft.
Have you tried saving them in OO format instead of .doc? another thing I tried, which worked once or twice, was to open the file, copy EVERYTHING in the document, then open a new OO file and paste it all in there, then save it again. Pointless, but it did work once or twice.
Anpther thing to try is to open them with Microsoft Office and save them to be compadible with Office 97. OO may not yet support features or formatting in the more recent versions of MS Office. but not sure, just a thought
