I had decided to bring my 9 year old dog from abroad to be with me in HK but had since received a number of views against it. He is currently in boarding until I make suitable arrangements to bring him over in 2 months time. He is very close to me. I greatly appreciate any advice and views. Thanks in advance.

Our dog was only a couple of years old when we brought her to HK, but if we were to go back to the UK now that she's an old girl, there's no way we'd leave her behind. The only reason I can see for not bringing your dog over would be if he has any medical conditions and your vet has advised you otherwise. I would think that your dog would be far happier in the long run with being flown over here (even though I can imagine it's not a great experience for a dog, but plenty of them do it!) to spend the rest of his life happily with you. The only way I'd leave him behind is if you've got family or a good friend who has offered to take care of him for you.

Thanks for all your advice and encouragement. Yes, I would bring him over. I can't wait to have him though I suppose he will need to be re-adjust to life here without a garden etc.

We brought our 2 dogs (one aged 13) from USA to HK last jan and they did fine. I did all the paperwork myself at this end and in the US. Dogs are only allowed to be carried as cargo into HK but Marcus at the Animal and Fisheries Dept was able to get us an exception for them to travel as checked luggage with us on the flight because of the age of the older one and the distance. That meant they were brought straight to the luggage hall and the rep took us straight down to their office todo the paperwork rather than waiting for them to unload the cargo and take them across to the cargo terminal on the other side of the airport approx 2-3hr wait once flight has arrived. The dogs were through in half an hour and we all left to go home together.
