using copied chinese PC games

am i allowed this thread?

bought some PC games in shenzhen

none of them work, my PC won't boot the executable.

is there something i need to do? copy a crack?

download chinese recognition software?

i'm sure there is an easy solution...

Just a word of advice. A lot of those 'copied' games may install Trojans and/or other unwanted programs as well. As I am in the virus research arena, I see it is quite a common thing for the pirated CD/DVD to include such additional malware.

OK, if anyone asks, I know nothing about these matters, but here it goes anyway...


Crack is irrelevant until the program is installed, cracks merely trick programs into running without putting the CD into the drive.

It is possible that the language thing is a problem, if so, go the Control Panel -> Regional and Language Settings and change the region to China or HK or whatever, you could also change the primary or default languages to Chinese (which shouldn't affect how your computer works, as programs should still display everything in english, but english windows doesn't like having chinese folder names)

I'd leave that til last though, it can mess things up from time to time, and don't say I didn't warn you if it does.

You could also try copying all the files on the CD onto your HDD, installing them then deleting the copied flies (NOT THE INSTALLED ONES).

There's always the chance that you just got dud CDs and that the CDs themselves weren't burnt properly, or your computer doesn't like them. if the above suggestions don't work, that'd be my best bet.
