Tax Question?

ORIGINAL POST

I realised that I failed to claim a deduction as a single parent in my previous years tax return(2004-2005). I also did a course of study that covered the year 2005-2006, though I paid for the course during the financial year 2004-05.

Is there any way to claim these now by revising that tax return? Can I claim for the education expense in the 2005/2006 tax return?

Thanks for any advice!

You can contact the IRD with the details. They often allow you to submit an amended return. I think the process to follow is on the IRD website.

http://www.ird.gov.hk/eng/tax/ind.htm and go to the allowances link which produces a table of all allowances and deductions. Self-education is deductible up to HKD40,000 but you need to prove it, usually.
