my wireless mouse is not working? Any idea why?

Did the mouse ever work on the current computer or is it a new addition? If it did work (last week?) what changes were made just before it stopped working? Can you undo the changes? Add any new programs, new hardware? Did you have to install drivers for the (unknown brand) mouse? Did you? You did, well try reinstalling the drivers - might not have worked the first time around.

You can go into the hardware device manager and look for problems (conflicts, disabled hardware, etc.) but I don't have time to address that at the moment. A quick option if you have any necessary driver software is to remove the mouse from device manager (especially if there are problems indicated there) and restart the computer. That will often fix hardware problems.

Otherwise, do an internet search on the specific brand of mouse you are using, XP, and then look for fixes in the massive list of articles you will find.

Brand?

model?

Operating System version?

activity prior to malfunction?

Direct connection to the computer or using a switch?

a little help, we need to know a bit more before we can suggest a solution.

no, maybe you need to do a bit of on-line research, or provide a bi of info. It might work to go out and buy another mouse - unless there is a corrupted driver or other minor nasty that you will have to fix before it works - or maybe it is a really simple fix, it often is

Assuming you have the (or don't need) driver software, I would go into device manager and remove the mouse, and restart the computer, install or let it reinstall the drivers, and see what happens.

bit of confusion, was talking about the brand and model of the mouse. if it's a low quality mouse, probably just got a dud one. If it's some low quality brand, go for a logitech (or microsoft if you REALLY want to, but I think Logitech is better)

otherwise, try uninstalling the software and driver for the mouse, then installing it again. if not, check the FAQs on the website for the company that makes it.

I would do waht kdm03 says in reverse order - drivers/software first (including device manager) and then a new mouse. If you have another computer handy you can check the mouse in question on a different machine to see if it works. If it does not work on another machine that gives you a strong indication of where the problem is.

It doesn't matter which OS you are using, if it works on a Win98/95/3.1 or a linux box the mouse works! So your OS is out of whack. If it doesn't work, your mouse is (probably) out of whack!
