I just have lots of time, I want to learn sth easy. One of my european friend joined this kind of course in europe. She said it was very interesting and she had also lots of fun during lessons. And I also think it can be nice to attend such a course to become like "my fair lady". Especially that during some important dinner I really don't know how to properly hold the glass, where to put my hands during dinner (on the table or under the table or maybe hands up-joking)etc. So does anyone know where I can learn this???

@simple simon: do u mean local people have no manner? I strongly disagree:-)))

I don't know if they are still in business, but you could try them.

Have fun, sounds like a great idea.

After this you can do an intro to wine course, and then some fine food courses and you will be the perfect dinner guest/host :)

To be honest, I think so many people 'think' we have good table manners, but would not last through the first course without serious mistakes if we dined with royalty!

am not sure if there's a place in HKG where one can go to learn table manners. can share some pointers I learned from my husband:

at the table:

1.he would ask me if I'm holding a gun under the table whenever my other hand is missing during mealtimes, hey its a good way to show off that nice watch too so hand on the table but not elbow.

2. holding a glass I still have a lot learning to as there are many types of them, but its good to always remember not drink that wine all the way down at once and no slurping sound pls.

3. ahaahh I thought we can cut everything w/ the table knife but no, use the fork if it needs cutting.

4. sit straight, elbows off the table, bring the food to your mouth and not the other way around ( difficult when eating hot steaming noodles ). If you want to say something or someone tries to talk to you remember to swallow first.

5. When invited for dinner at someones place, wait until the host says you can serve yourself, don't be shy to ask your neighbor to pass on the salt. I will not bother showing my expertise on cutting those yummy bits on the bones.

Practicing these manners at home can help too.

Manners..

I've been to many a balls but one thing I can never get a hang of. Why can't the waiters have some manners drilled into their brains before they whisk your plate away?

I swear, I've had many of my classy dishes taken away cos I took just too long to consume em.

Duh.. those stiffling table manners!

If you don't have any luck with courses you might try Debrett's Guide to Etiquette and Modern Manners, it covers everything from thank you letters to buttering your bread.
