I'm thinking of joining. I know, I know: there are probably at least 30 people reading this ready to launch a blistering attack...but for me the locations of 2 of the the CA Fitness gyms are perfect (CWB, near where I live - and Whampoa - where I work). Plus they have late opening times, which is important for me.
Can anyone who knows tell me about the Causeway Bay and/or Whampoa branches: are they ALWAYS super-busy? What sort of pricing would be a 'good deal for a gweilo' on membership with access to multiple branches?
Thanks in advance!

Waffle HK, with 'good deal for a gweilo' I simply meant it's probably reasonable to expect that a gweilo (a) isn't going to be gifted enough with in-your-face, industrial strength bargaining which local HK people seem to be blessed with (I know I certainly don't have that); and (b) my own previous experience on buying products/services (eg when getting renovations done at home) where local colleague were able to get quotes that were literally half of the best I could muster.
I don't think it's a sweeping generalisation, but if you think otherwise, would be happy to hear! Cheers.

I have had a membership with CF since it opened in HK. Great facilities and they always have the latest equipment.
There are also other outstanding gyms in HK but I like the fact that CF have one gym near my office and one near my home.

I signed with the Kowloon Rugby club for 250 a month for 2 yaers and no signing fee. I don't play rugby I was jsut a social memeber. Then I signed for a 4 years membership for no signing fee but I was told not to tell my deal for 4 years. Truth be told I haven't been to the gym for over 6 months since I bought my own traedmill. I think I have over 2 years left if I'm allowed to change over the membership to your name I have a platinum membership all clubs, all classes and 2 free trainer sessions.I would love to sell it over to you if you are interested send me a message in my box and I we talk to the club. It may be the best deal! Take care

I didn't know it's that expensive. I am getting a super deal then. I joined California Tsim Sha Tsui one this year in March, for post natal fitness. I have my personal trainer there. I get to use the gym at any hour, any day for 1 year, and I have Personal training classes. I paid $ 240.00 HKD per month for gym use, and per PT class it's about $ 400 HKD. Very good quality class, excellent equipment, excellent facility in changing rooms, superbly clean, and good security.
I just want to know where is the one NEAR CWB? (Is there one near Clearwater Bay? ) Or you meant Causeway Bay ? (CB?)

Kate...by CWB I did mean Causeway Bay...it's on Percival Street, near Esprit/G.O.D. Need to work on my expat TLA's I guess! (Three Letter Acronyms)

I paid HK$5888 for 48 months. I had to pay all upfront. It was some kind of "special" deal and may not be available anymore, however never accept their first offer and don't listen to "this is the best I can do" unless they 've said it about 100 times.

Splat, no problem. I was hoping there WAS one in CWB b/c that's where I live..... too bad. I only go to the one in TST, been to the Whampoa one once b/c I used to teach in Whampoa. It's quite new, but I think TST is the nicest one, and the one in Central is good too.
They always have "specials" now and then..... but in general, CF is a name brand, so it's pricier than your common fitness clubs. If you go to the TST one, you will see Jackie Chan now and then inspecting his investment.....

As some rough guidance, several of my friends pay in the HKD120 to 150 per month range at Cali (all clubs all hours).
BTW, splat: No problem with your acronyms – CWB is much more commonly used for Causeway Bay than for Clearwater Bay.
