We are planning on moving into an apartment but cannot stand the dark brown colour of the aluminium window frames (totally inappropriate in a small apartment). We want to change the colour but they look like a gloss anodised finish. Is there any simple way of painting these ourselves (we've already asked the prospective landlord and he has refused)?

We also have the same window frames and the same issues with color. We have asked contractors that have done other work in our flat if it is possible to paint the frames and they've said no. However, I noticed in the SCMP Sunday Post Magazine (design section) about 2-3 weeks ago, that the featured owners had a company paint their window frames. If you don't get/ keep the magazine, let me know and I can try to dig out the name of the company (then again, if you are renting, maybe you don't want this type of expense??).
