I have 2 questions for anyone out there who has painted their walls. I am trying to paint a bedroom with Dulux Wall Sealant and then put normal emulsion paint over it. Problem is, the wall sealant (which leaves a plastic finish)is not going on smooth, even though I've tried 2 different roller brushes, including one recommended by the store that sold me the paint. From their experiences, does anyone know if once I put the regular paint on, that the rough surface will not be noticable? Also, any idea how to get rid of drips that have already dried? As I mentioned, the wall sealant goes on like plastic, so it's seems impossible to sand down the drips...My husband and I are on the verge of calling a contractor to finish the room as we don't want to screw it up any more than we already have! Thanks for your tips.

Which sealant are you using ?

I am using Dulux Alkali Resisting Wall Sealer (Water Borne) (A931-18177).

Have you tried sanding with Wet and Dry?

I just googled Wet and Dry sandpaper as I've never heard of it and it might be worth a try. As for the bumpy texture, we are guessing we should have thinned the sealant with water to make it go on a bit smoother (we've never had to thin regular paint before, so the sealant caught us off guard). Unfortunately, we can't undo what we've done, but I want to make sure we don't make the same mistake on the next room. When other people do this stuff, it looks so easy!

Always read the tin! Usually paint, whether oil or water based, needs to be thinned somewhat. Use a good quality brush/rollers and don't let drips form ie apply less paint & paint from top to bottom sequence with cross brush strokes.
