Hello just wanted to hear other mothers experience on when their LO went from 2 naps a day to 1 nap a day. What time was the nap and for how long? Also what was bedtime and wake up time? Thank you.

At 9 months, my daughter still took 2 naps a day and this sort of was her routine till about 15-18 months.
Wake Up @ 6.30am
1st Nap @ 10-11am
2nd Nap @ 2-4pm (I had to schedule this as her 2 yr old sister slept at that time)
Sleep @ 8.30pm
So for 2 hours each day I'd have time to tidy up my house, cook, go on the internet to just regain my sanity!

My 9 month old still takes 3 naps most days!! She's a sleepy girl!
7am wake up
9am-10am nap
12 - 1:30/2pm nap
4:3-5 nap.
7pm bedtime
I thought now she's sleeping 7 to 7 she might drop the afternoon nap, and sometimes she does and she's OK, other times she's really grumpy! There's no way we could drop the morning nap though.

Thanks for your replies. I thought babies were supposed to drop their 2nd nap around 9 months, so I guess it is not always the case. My 9 month old is still on 2 naps a day, but very short naps usually. Actually I can't get her to sleep more than 10 hours a night. She will usually sleep about 9 1/2 hours. If I increase her total daytime nap for more than 2 - 2 1/2 hours, she will sleep even less at night! I wonder if I am doing something wrong or do some babies just sleep less. It seems that I need more sleep than my LO!
Her schedule is roughly:
Wake up: 6.30/7am
1st Nap: 11 - 12pm
2nd Nap: 4.15 - 5pm
Bedtime: around 9pm

Hi Janey,
I do not know the sleep history of your baby so just wondering if your baby is having her first nap too late - That is almost 4 hours after her wake-up time. She could be overtired by the time you put her down and therefore will not sleep well as she should and this carries on for the rest of the day.
Perhaps you want to consider putting her down earlier, about 9plus or 10plus and then try putting her down about 12plus to 1pm? Hopefully she can sleep til 2 or half two can that can stretch her until bedtime at 7pm.
it is just a suggestion, not sure if this will improve or worsen her night time sleep. of course, this suggestion you might want to ignore if your intention is for her to sleep at 9pm anyway!
cheers

Hi Wheelymate,
I would love for my LO to sleep from 7pm - 7am! It just never seems to happen. She was waking early in the morning around 5am, that's why I let her sleep at 9pm, so she wakes at a reasonable hour. I will definitely try your suggestion of putting her down for her first nap earlier and see if that will make a difference.
Thanks. Also just wondering if sleep patterns are trained or do they evolve naturally?
