I would suggest oak and ask if it is kiln dried. I use Choy Lee in Queens Rd.If you have Chinese construction methods the panels will be able to expand and contract as necessary.Personal designs might have to be adapted a little.

Problem is regardless of what you ask i.e. if its kiln dried, they will just say yes! If your intending spending on expensive furniture, I would bring along someone who knows their woods or perhaps do some research beforehand. I find in the shops in HK they just agree to everything you ask to ensure a sale!

There are some shops in Happy Valley including one that imports from Italy but it is very traditional albeit beautiful furnitue,the other shops are what I call OTT with their styles and gilding etc so maybe not your cup of tea although there are a couple of contemporary shops again with imports from Italy.
