I have curly hair which not all hairdressers can cut. If you have someone you can recommend in HK I would really appreciate it. I also would like my blonde highlights done..any suggestions and estimates??

Dear Douglas,

Thanks for the help. As you can imagine I have tried many different products to control the frizz and just keep the curl. Some work, some don't...I have never had my hair 'sealed' with reconditioning. I have to say it sounds fab. Can this only be done at a hairdressers(any good ones?)does it have a specific name? or could I just do it at home?

Thanks

Hi gwern

I just had my hair done with hi-lights at The Firm in the Centrium. I have naturally curly hair also. It was a guy new to Hong Kong called Leo. He was trained by Toni & Guy in the UK. it is by far the best colour and cut i have had in Hong Kong. They are not the cheapest but compared to getting the colour re-done after a disaster at T&G in honk Kong or done every 3-4 weeks which happened last two times cos the colour was not done close enough to the roots I looked like I had two weeks re-growth the same day - it was money well spent.

Hi Gwern,

I do not have curly hair but I'm pretty much through with many of the hair products currently or pass due in the market. To my opinion you can't change the genes or the natural way in which your hair is grown. Anyway I do have a personal hair dresser, i've been to many salons until I came across a guy called Paul. Well he's Chinese however I must say its the only hair-dresser that I have come across that's equipped and the good thing is he listens. I believe facial structure and the personal character factors are rather important. So what I think you need is a good cut plus a matching color so that you can manage how your hair is grown, a style that you are most "comfortable" being in everyday, and a style that you "can" manage. Anyway he's from Xenter Jut, quite famous amongst the high net-worth group and celebrities, not too expensive either, you can reach him at 25374188 XENTER JUT which is in Central. Anyway's no point in me elaborating why not just try once, hair can always grow back so what the heck. Have fun and good luck, offcourse even if you dun go I still wish you goodluck~ take care. By the way they have massage facilities as well on the same level.

I know there are many hairdressers that cut curly hair well but from my experience the best results I have seen come from hairstylist who have curly hair themselves. They seems to bring a little more to the style from their own personal experience of dealing with curly hair. Its just something I have noticed over the years in this industry.

Philip George at the Philip George Salon is a true hair genius. I have curly hair that I also highlight and he has been the best hairdresser I have ever been to here in HK or abroad. Not cheap, but worth every penny.

Products I like are Be Curly by Aveda for everyday use and in the super humid months, I use Frizz Ease serium while my hair is sopping wet. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find Frizz Ease here in HK, so whenever I have a friend coming from N. America or the UK, I ask them to bring a few bottles.
