Have any of you cloth nappy fans tried washing them in eco-friendly detergents such as soap nuts or Ecover non-bio, which are available on http://www.kinoa-shop.com/1128.html in Dicovery Bay?

Thanks!

In the UK we used Ecover all the time for our clothes.

In HK we use Persil Non-Bio. Ecover is really expensive here :(

We use ecoballs for all our washing, nappies included - but not the type on that website - bought them off ebay and they work really well - they do 1000 washes so last about 3 years and come with a stain remover which I haven't even had to use yet.

Google ecoballs or check on UK ebay - they're not a detergent as such but ionise oxygen or something....!!!

Spicegal - they really work? What temp do you wash your clothes in?

Do they get out food and poo and nappy stains and everything? What about odors?

Yeah, I was a little sceptical - and we only have a cold water feed for our washing machine so everything gets washed at room temperature... admittedly they're not pristine white but they're definitely not grubby looking either. They're no worse than they were after 4 months of washing with regular powder and conditioner.

I also throw some vinegar into the final rinse to soften them and a few drops of lavendar and tea tree oil. But when I forget (ours is a top loading machine so you have to catch it at the final rinse time - if you have a front loader you can put them into the conditioner comparetment for the final rinse) the nappies don't smell at all.

Oh, I use fleece liners with my nappies though so the actual nappies don't tend to be that dirty anyway but the fleece liners aren't stained either

I'm definitely a convert!!

Wow - very interesting...

Didn't mean to imply you were in gruby clothing, just curious about how clean they got :)

Ha ha - I definitely didn't think you implied that!! I do find it hard to keep things white in this climate anyway so don't buy white clothing any more!! IMO the ecoballs really do get things pretty much as clean as washing powder - they will get a v good test tomorrow though - blueberry puree on a white sleepsuit - eeek - silly Mummy!!!

BTW I got the same as the website crj posted but cheaper from ebay - I did get them posted within the UK though..

I use Nappysan...wonderful product that you can find at ParkNShop....not sure how eco-friendly it is though...you soak the nappies in a bucket for at least 2 hours (it cleans and disinfects)and you put the whole lot in the washer and run a rinse program (no need to wash...no detergent). Then you hang to dry (no dryer...more eco-friendly)That's it. Did it for 2 years and loved it. I even use Nappysan to soak my own stained clothes. It's fabulous!

Hi, I use soap nuts like www.kinoa-shop.com: it's amazing. And there's only natural soap inside, so it's nice for my baby's skin.

Like spooky I use napisan too. My helper washes the poo off the nappies first then soaks. Also hang dry...No problem. I cannot use anything perfumed or anything else - he's allergic...
