There are spas everywhere now. Just wondering do you give tips if you have some body massage or facial etc. If yes, how much is the norm? Thank you.

Thanks Cara and Mango. I do normally give $100, just want to know if this is appropriate.

If it is in a salon/shop I give about HKD20 for a manicure or pedicure or massage. About 10% of the cost.

wow, my whole 45 minutes at the spa for a body massage only costs me $ 100.... can't imagine paying $ 100 for a tip.... I can get another 45 minutes massage.

my massage therapist doesn't expect tips. Now and then I bring her goodies, and souvenirs if I travel... but that's it.

Thanks all for sharing. My husband gave me a spa treat for an hour body massage that cost about $500 not long ago. I thought my therapist really did a good job, I wasn't sure how much to give as this is my first time to have a massage at the spa in Hongkong, so I just gave her $100. At first, she refused but I insisted. When I was at the spa in other country like Bali or recently we travelled to Cebu in a 5 stars hotel, I gave about US$10-15. But at those places the living standard is much lower than HKG. So just want to gather some info, if the tips that I gave was appropriate. As for me, I'm more than happy to give HK$100. Thank you once again for sharing....

No on ementioned not to be confused when Service Charges are added to your tabs. Services Charges (often 10&), I've come to understand, are NOT tips given to the Service Staff.

My hair cuts are about 800 too, and I tip 20 for the hair washer as they earn very little.

I now also tip 100 for the hair dresser, but I have been going to her for 8 years, and do this out of loyalty. I did not do this at first, and if I just got a random hair cut for 800 I would tip 20-50.
