What weather are you looking for? Madrid and Granada will be VERY cold.

I spent New Year 2000/01 in Seville. We went out into the central area (around the cathedral) at about 10pm. There was no-one around, it was completely dead. We went to an Irish bar directly opposite the cathedral which was full of Brits/Irish complaining that nothing was happening.

As New Year approached more & more people started to fill the streets. At midnight it was heaving full of people & there were fireworks etc. Then the fun really began. The Spanish took to the streets en masse - it was great ! Music, dancing and drinking. A real party atmosphere kicked on, I dropped out at 4am, but things were still going on strong then.

The temps were a bit chilly at night (12C ?), but warmish (18C) during the day.

If I was heading back to Spain at New Year I'd head for Granada or Cordoba, even though they may be colder they are beautiful towns with a real localised scene.

enjoy, enjoy,

Jerry.

If you have never been to Spain I would suggest you to go to Sevilla o Madrid to start.. night life is fantastic (mind you, as Jerry said, things start very late there). I personally would prefer Sevilla because in my opinion it's the most "Spanish" and it's the most fun. You can do day trips to Granada and Cordoba during the same trip, and pass by Madrid on your way back to HK.
