I would appreciate your advice....
I know you are a big Dr Sears fan and so am I. However I am struggling to settle my 6 month old baby for daytime naps and at bedtime. It usually takes 1/2 - 1 hours of on and off crying in my arms. He settles himself without a problem in the middle of the night. I also have a 3.5 year old so part of the problem is that the older one needs attention and often disturbs me when I'm trying to settle the baby. How did you cope with more than one child? Do you have any suggestions? At the moment I put the older one in front of the TV to keep him quiet but I really don't like doing that all the time.

the ONLY sleep method book Dr. Sears endorses is by Elizabeth Pantley - the No Cry Sleep Method. (I have it - he wrote the forward. It's worth a look - I remember she had a website as well- so do a yahoo! search and see if she does - see if it will work for you.

Re alternatives to putting elder child in front of TV, I intend to try soon (upon recommendation of a friend) book & CD sets. Basically somebody with a fun voice reading your child a story while they look at the pictures.

Thanks for your suggestions guys.
I used to put my baby to sleep in a sling or baby carrier but he's too heavy now (over 9kgs and I'm only 50kgs) and it's killing my shoulders and back. And he doesn't like the stroller. I do still try to nurse him to sleep, but if my older one is around or comes in then his eyes pop open.
My older one does usually look at books, or play quietly by himself, but that doesn't often last longer than 1/4 - 1/2 hour and then he comes looking for some attention (which I can't blame him for).
I will have a look at the book and see if it has any suggestions. Thanks to everyone for responding.
