Apple does not control the prices that retailers charge but instead set up incentives for retailers, such as cash and other benefits, if they keep to the Apple prices. If a retailer breaks with Apple prices, such as a computer shop in Wanchai offering discounts, it will lose those incentives. So you have to ask, why WOULD you be offered a discount if the shop could lose more than just the $ amount of any discount...

If you are a teacher or a student you can get the education discout by purchasing at the online Apple store. That's the only way to get a discount. Period.

if you are buying the basic model, retailers can't really give you anything in terms of discounts... but if you buy a higher end model then retailers can add on extra memory as a form of discount. At least this has been my experience in authorized apple dealer stores.

Ask for some extra memory(RAM), I got them to throw in an extra 1GB on my macbook pro. I reckon that's about the best you can do. Online store sometimes has special deals, like cash back for a nano etc.

I actually found the apple online store to be cheapest as I wanted extra RAM. At the local computer stores, they needed to charge for the RAM that came with the PC (which needed to be removed and therefore useless) + the replacement RAM which worked out to be more expensive.
