We're taking a family holiday at the Tanjung Aru. I'm trying to work out what baby supplies to take - does anyone know how easy it is to buy baby food and nappies there? Or should I pack enough food and nappies for the whole stay (5 days). My baby is still on totally pureed food, so the hotel food won't be suitable.
Thanks

Hi, we stayed there - it's great with babies - and close to town so you can get supplies - there's a Watsons and a Manngings (called something else but you'll recognise the logo) in the shopping centre where Malaysian airlines is - they have nappies, pampers, huggies etc - we used the Mamy Poko ones as we have them in China too - our baby wasn't on solids when we went though so can't help there but what about taking a hand blender? There's loads of fresh fruit at the morning breakfast.
HTH's a little.

I stayed at TA during July this year with my baby and other daughter. Personally I took baby food with me and nappies to save bothering with finding baby supplies. For breakfast she had mashed banana and yoghurt or scrambled egg or anything else I could mash up. The buffet breakfast is absolutely amazing and is the buffet dinner - kids eat for free. The hotel and staff were absolutely wonderful especially an older guy called Rohan(sp.) He would dress up everyday and drive an ice cream bike around the swimming pool area. The staff in the kids room were equally nice. My little one got nappy rash on the last day and the hotel arranged for a babysitter to look after her in the playroom for 3 hrs whilst we enjoyed the last few hours of our holiday. Babysitters were wonderful and very cheap.
Take a trip to the waterfront where there are a load of restaurants if you fancy a trip out. Also, there is a market worth going to that closes at 5/6pm. Its not buggy friendly (take a baby carrier) and is close to the waterfront restaurants, there were loads of lovely throws, bags etc but we left it until the last night to go and got given incorrect info as to when it closes so we missed it. Dont bother with any other markets like the Sunday market.
There were loads of lovely boat trips but we felt it was a nightmare to do such trips with a toddler although we went on a banana boat ride with our other daughter.
Have a wonderful time. We did and would definitely go back.

HI there
I lived in Kota Kinabalu now. Used to live in Guang Zhou. Don;t worry here we got everything. But you must know where to go. As in Tanjung Aru there is a supermarket called SUNNY on the way there. They have everything you need. nappies, jar baby foods, lotion etc. If you need something else, than go to downtown. Shang-rila got the shuttle bus to either Merdeka, Center point. There you can find watson, supermarket, coffee beans, starbucks, the body shop and so on. Can't compare to HK mall definitely!
If you go to a day trip tour, or boat trip a baby sling/carrier will be more useful than stroller.
Don;t forget suncream !

Many thanks for your replies. Very helpful. Will probably aim to take what we need, but nice to know it won't be a disaster if I miscalculate.
