Want to buy US and HK stocks and funds online. Which affordable online brokerage firms would you recommend?

I can only comment on US brokerages. Many don't willingly service overseas accounts. Charles Schwab does. They have a Hong Kong office, but for online you can deal as well directly with their US operations. Be sure to choose a firm that handles the exact types of transactions you want to do. If you are not American, be prepared for some paperwork about tax withholding, etc.
