This is so embarrassing! Has anyone ever 'lost' a tampon? I used one at the end of my period and I can't remember removing it! In twenty odd years of using them, this has never happened to me before. The string has gone! I've fiddled around for ages trying to find it ... so has hubby!! But no sign whatsoever ... now I'm wondering if I did actually remove it but can't remember ... I'd had a few drinks but I'm sure I would have remembered! Has anyone else ever had this problem, and if so, what the hell did you do?? I would die of embarrassement if I had to go the doctor ... especially if it wasn't there!!

I totally sympathise - something similar happened to me, and I had the biggest stress attack that I would never get it out and that I would die of toxic shock (my whole life flashed before me and I thought I'd never find the damn thing.) I had to have THE BIGGEST fiddle ever and just managed to find a bit of the string rolled up and sticking out of the cervix - I grabbed it for my life and pulled. What had happened was that it had gone all the way up into cervix and it was literally unreachable. (I really hope no men are reading this!). However, perhaps this is what has happened to you. If so, then your best hope is trying to find even the smallest end of the string to bring it out. If it's not working, then I agree with Raincatcher - go to a doctor whether you think it's there or not. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Oh my God!! Looks like having another fiddle then!! But I don't hold out much hope ... nearly lost my hand the last time and still couldn't find the b*%#@# string!!! Next time I have my period I'm staying sober!!

Sorry to be blunt but if it was up there they your husband would be able to feel it inserting 1 finger,sounds like you did remove it.

Sheep, I do hope you're right ... but you know, with the applicator thingy, they do go up quite a way ... longer than the length of a finger I would say.

But usually pushing to have a wee etc, they dont stay way up there, with the moisture and so on, they would swell and your husband would def feel it.

Ha Ha!! Yes years ago this happened to me. I went to the doctor and thankfully I had removed it but couldn't remember!

I think we've all had moments of panic over tampons. You can't lose them. If you read the little instruction booklet (slow time in loo with nothing else to read)it says that the cervix is way to small to actually have one disappear up there. If you've had a good look it's gone. Without being totally yuck...you'd smell it, get itching and have a discharge.

this happened to me when i was about 15...had my perion and went on a boat and was jumping off the top....and when i came home i coulndt find the string...was at the end of my period and couldnt remember if i had put on in or not.... anyway was sooooo embarrassed went to the doc but chickened out couldnt tell him...it appear again after about 4 days....best to go to the doc i reckon!
