We use MotherEase from Canada and really love them... BUT I bought these BEFORE Sophie stared Doubibou, and if I had the option to do it all again, I would buy 2-3 different types from Sophie and see what I liked best before deciding.
We bought a huge batch before baby was born based on reviews and recommendations, we don't regret it at all, but it would have been nice to try different options before deciding. I am sure there are better options and absolutely there are better looking options (ours are boring compared to all the cool looking ones!)
Sophie can talk/walk you through all the pros and cons of each type of cloth nappy, you should really contact her - she won't 'push' her products at you, she will educate you so you can decide.
And BTW - good for you!!!

We used the fuzzi bunz cloth diapers which we ordered via www.littlewonders.com.tw A great website for cloth diapering and the person selling it, Katrina has used them for her 2 babies before. So best you email her if you have any concerns. The shipment will also save you quite a bit of $$ since it's only coming from Taiwan instead of the States or Canada. Ordered my PonchoPals a few weeks back and it arrived in good time.

I got the pre-folded and unfolded ones from here, loads of them. They are excellent:

I also got the froggy nappy covers and the snappis all from here too. Still using it at almost 6 months and very happy with them. Easy to wash and dry too.
Cheers

The traditional flat terry or muslin nappies are easily found in most baby shops and also in the street markets.
For modern cloth nappies, {the shaped tailored ones} you will need to buy on line. The two local web sites are Doubibou and Nappy Pooh.
I also have bought from OS to try different brands that were reccommended.
Totally agree that is is best to buy a couple of different brands to start off with to see what suits your baby and washing needs best.
FWIW, of the 5 types I have tried, my favourite so far is the Swaddlebees pocket nappy, for the following reasons:
* Good fit, and velcro tabs. I prefer these for fit over snaps.
* 'Fabric' feel PUL outer. Some of the nappies have a very 'plasticy' outer, which is not as nice.
* Removable fillers. This means that the nappy can be 'boosted' if necessary and also makes it so much quicker to dry.
Have fun trying them out!

WingOn, any of the Chinese department stores, the Lanes in Central, Ladies Market, etc...
They do sometimes have them at mothercare, but a lot more expensive.
We use muslin cloths as burp cloths and all around useful items - always very handy!
It is also good if you can find some really large ones - they are light weight and make great summer blankets for the pram and 'shawls' for breast feeding, etc...
We don't use them as nappies - we use MotherEase http://www.motherease.com/

I use Mother-ese with my boy and we are very happy with them. They are well made, strong and I have heard they can last for many many years through 3-4 children. I think that is something to think about when purchasing them, something that's going to last. They never leak, I wish I had discovered them with my first child. I used bambino mio then and they always leaked.

I really suggest buying a few of different types. I know so many people who love motherease and I really didn't like them. I'd advise you to buy maybe 6 different types to try and then see what you like. I think I have about 12 types!!!
I personally don't find it a hassle putting a wrap over the nappy so I also wouldn't necessarily rule out a 2 part nappy either. I find pockets more hassle than 2 part nappies - it's all about personal preferences and you really don't know till you try.
I LOVE the tots fluffle nappies (Doubibou has them) - they are perfect in the summer here as they dry so fast, so when the humidity is high and everything else is taking ages to dry you know you can rely on the fluffles to be dry fast (oh, and they have the fleece liner in already). I do like regular tots too.
I also swear by hemp nappies for overnight as they are so absorbent (we use Ellas house bum huggers). But, that's just my preference.
How many do you need? Depends how often you like to wash - we have about 25 nappies, 5 covers, 30 odd fleece liners, 10 boosters - we wash every 3 days and it's fine - we get through about 6 a day (admittedly my LO isn't a heavy wetter) which gives us 3 days, plus one day while they're drying's worth.
BTW Motherease are one size but do need a cover.

Motherease has two styles - Onse Size Fits all - which require a cover. and All in One which come in 3 sizes.
We find the all in one are very easy, but that the one size fits all are more absorbant and leak proof.
When I eventually arrange a baby sign language lesson with you you can see them!!

I know Doubidou has cloth nappy workshops, I think thats a good way to have a look at different types. I like Mother-ease because they have a separate nappy cover. I breast feed and when you get those explosive poo's the nappy cover is a safe guard to prevent leaks out of the legs. The Mother-ese really wash well too. I purchased the One size (8-35lb) 'stay-dry' ones. They are great as when your baby has a wet nappy the part next to the skin is dryish. I also have some Sandy's too for when my bub is older. Have a look at the website www.mother-ese.com

Joshmomm- I ordered mine from Canada and had them delivered to my parents house in the USA and brought them back in a huge duffel bag on Cathay :)
Doubibou will be at the Christmas Fair of the HK Country Club this Sunday - so you can see what she has and get all the super expert advice from Sophie.
And there is a cloth nappy workshop on 8 December in Discovery Bay.

Hi joshmom, about the covers, we had no problems through the summer (LO is 10 months now) and used mostly the PUL ones during the day - we always use fleece at night as less frequent changes and PUL do leave some red marks so I feel fleece is a bit kinder... I'd quite like to try wool but haven't yet...
They don't get too hot inside if you;re using fleece liners - either built in to the nappy or seperate (we mostly use seperate so guess I use a 3 part system!!) as they draw the moisture from the skin.
I also just got this new type of cover which has a different type of breathable plastic and then a fleece outer - called wacky wraps - google them, they have some fab designs - but not really tried it out much yet as it's too big still.
I do like the motherease wraps even though their nappies aren't for me - I find the air flow ones easy to use and the poppers give a good amount of adjustability.
crj, my husband agrees that 2 parts are really not that difficult to manage - plus, in the early stages containment is better than with AIO's!
Sorry think I'm woffling now... HTH's though! Cloth nappies can be totally baffling!!!

hello,
i am selling 3 NEW cloth nappies from doubibou at 50% off for those who wants to try out different types, my ads at trading post, don't know what is it called, terry cloth material and fleece liner inside, i didn't use it at all. I also have few different types of nappies to try out. My vote goes for pocket diaper as i'm "lazy" to do the 2 parts.

I used Mommy's touch onesize for my baby, It fit nicely , not leak, and has a soft fleece inside. The insert I use GAD onesize microfiber for day and hemp for night.Onesize diapers can be bulky and has awkward looking for smaller babies. Not so nice and trim fitting like those with size.
I also use Bumwear , good quality , but I found that the onesize is a bit miss leading, since my baby is still to small to wear (until 3 months) even on the smallest setting. because the leg hole is big and not snug fit.Plus the wings keep dropping. I think It will fit better for bigger size /older baby. I tried also Malaysia made Freshbots diaper, it's actually a AO2. the soaker must be lay on the top of the cover. Nice fitting, trim. come in 3 sizes.
Another one worth to try is peapods from australia. Very reasonable price. Come with the insert and PUL mini bag. CUTE..it's good to carry a clean diaper when i go outside, and to keep the soiled diaper later on.
I will open my online cloth diaper store in January next year. I will carry 5 types of cloth diaper for beginning. And later on will carry diaper cover also. And I will carry one of the best diaper made by WAHM in USA to Asian market.
Quite nervous tough, because I know that modern CD is still new in Asia. And abit pricey to start the first stash.
I loves talking about CD and Now I;m addicted to CD! LOL

I love my Mother-ese I must say. The only prob I have sometimes is fitting some bottoms over them as they are they are alot bulkier than disposables. What I would like to know if there is a cloth nappy, (not so bulky) that I could use when I want to put some slimmer fitting bottoms on my baby. Does have anyone have any suggestions?

Joshmomm - sent you an email to your personal email.

Joshmomm, you don't need 30 liners - I just have that many cos I cut up an ikea fleece blanket and that's how many it made (actually it made more but I keep giving them away to friends so they can make some too!). A few more than the number of nappies you have will be fine - plus if you have fleece lined nappies you don't need them. And yes, they're different to boosters because they don't absorb moisture really, they just draw it away from baby's bottom.
If you have flushable liners you can use them over fleece - most pocket nappies have a fleece inner I think.
Boosters - I have about 10 - use a couple at night and one if going out for a few hours. I have lots of the tots ones available from doubibou and some microfiber ones I made myself.
Sorry, I think I'm probably confusing you!!! I hope not - cloth nappying is really easy once you work out which kind suits you and your baby.

hi joshmomm.
like spicegal expained before, i just want to add a bit more
the liner is a piece of special paper or mircofleece cloth you use to top your diaper with. so it will make you baby's bottom dry.
The paper liner comes in 2 types. one is flushable and not flushable.
if you use pocket diaper with fleece/suedecloth lining, you dont really need liner, unless you have young breastfeed baby that still has runny poo, than it will help you to clean up the mess.
Booster is the extra inserts you put together with your pocket diapers for night time use or nap time. It will give the diaper extra boost of absorbency. Some is made by microterry/fiber. Some made by layers of flannel.
If you use AIO you can also put some booster to add more absorbency.(I use flannel booster with my AIO)

All this vocabulary can be very confusing so you can have a look at the Dictionary in the diaperpin:
http://www.diaperpin.com/dictionary.asp
synonym to booster are Doublers.
