Hi everyone, we are moving to HK in January and have a baby due in May. We've been reading a lot about the poor air quality in the city. Do we need to take any additional precautions when the baby comes along? Has anyone experienced any adverse reactions to the air quality from their newborns?

The visible pollution comes and goes. It's rarely ever really clear here, but the truly awful air days don't stay around forever either.
Like Cara, there are plenty of days when we don't go outside and others where we drop all other plans and spend the whole day outside to take advantage of a great day.
Our daughter was born here and is three now. We're rarely sick and none of us suffers from any respiratory illnesses. Here's how we try to manage our environment--We have aircleaners in all our rooms, though I think that's most imporant in the bedrooms. We rarely open our windows. We rarely traipse through the areas of the island where the pollution seems to settle in more. We don't eat any junk and we eat the best quality wholesome food we can get our hands on...organic veggies, organic whole grains, organic meats, fish from New Zealand and Australia...and nothing packaged or grown in China, where there seems to be just one appalling story after another...
We aren't kidding ourselves though, the air quality has to be having an effect on our health.

I agree with the above comments.
a very good air purifier for the baby bedroom does seem to be a popular purchase for many.
We buy locally produced organic products as well as imported and local other fresh fruit and veg.
In addition, there are trade offs living everywhere. The crime rate here is very very low, it is a vewry safe place to live, and it is exciting.
I would gladly take the bit of pollution for all the benefits.
