I know it's been asked a thousand times but you guys are SO helpful (plus i can't find a thread that answers my question.)
I'm on the verge of buying a car and want to know the order in which to do things.
I'm sorting a little finance (which ain't gonna be a problem)so do i need to sort that out, the find a car, then view and get it checked OR find car, check and view and then get finance.
I know what bedget i have in mind so am working to that.
Please help with the sensible order, may seem like a funny question but so much harder to do here than in the UK.
Thanks everyone

Here is the order you should proceed
1) make sure you have a valid driver license
2) source for the desire insurance provider
3) Find a permanent parking
4) have you money readily available which should include the price of the car, transfer of ownership, insurance, car examination fee/licensing, gas(not kidding, it averages $1,000/fill up for a normal car), monthly parking, plus some unexpected emergency cash...
5) Now go buy your car...
PS: If you get traffic tickets. Don't bother fighting it, because 99% you will lose. They seemed to be always right...And you would ended up paying triple...

Totty,
I still do not see why its harder to get shafted in HK than UK - have you ever bought a car from an individual or garage in the UK? (you are talking about second hand cars right?) Honestly its basically the same in HK. Who is your mechanic? What does he/she say to do - have you asked their advice? How many cars are you looking at? How much do you pay your mechanic - per inspection? If you are taking him to 'X' number of cars and he is charging per inspection its one thing, if he charges you a part day no matter how many you look at its a different case. But he may well not have time to visit loads cars. But if you delay making a buy of course you risk someone else buying the car - first come first served? How much do you know about basic mechanics ie could you have a look at a car yourself/with a friend first and later ask a mechanic to go along? Obviously its better to get the car checked before parting with any money.
And when you state 'finance' the timing may depend upon the source of the loan & whether or not its for a specific purpose ie a bank loan for no specific item or a HP agreemnet sorted by the garage?
What sequence would you do it in the UK?
In the end its your decission as to how you do this no doubt you will get various advice on this forum!

Re: deletions.
Lets keep this on track with answers to the question rather than digress into questioning the questions....
