Does any one have any advice or experience of sending their kids to ESF/International school in the NT/ Sai Kung area?
My daughter is currently going to Abacus and we will be shortly moving to nearer to the country park. I am concerned that Clear Water Bay and then KG 5 will be too far but the alternative is Renaissance and the reviews I am hearing at the moment aren't great. I have also heard that KG 5 in Ho Man Tin is so popular that if you arent in the catchment then it is very difficult to get a place even for native English kids.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, many thanks!

Can you fill me in on these reviews? I have a son starting there next year & haven't been feeling 100% happy but pressed for choice in the New Territories.

Hi Jessica,
My Neighbour is on the ESF management at KG 5 and I was asking her advice about schools. She told me Renaissance have had teething problems as its a brand new school - they haven't had the calibre of kids they had hoped for initially, therefore they are spending more time bringing the weaker kids up to speed with their english and the native English speakers are missing out on the proper curriculum/full attention of the teachers. On the other hand the facilities are state of the art and they are very strong on Manderin. She also spoke very highly of the head master. She thought it would need a few more years to find it's feet. Have you thought about Sha Tin primary and then college- I have heard its very good?

Hv a daughter in Beacon Hill and can heap nothing but praise on it.
It's nurturing, caring and welcoming, the teachers make you feel welcome and nothing is ever too much trouble. Oh and the things the kids learn just blow your mind.

HI Britchic,
yes I have heard of Shatin. Do you specifically want ESF? You have other international choices but you will be paying more.
Your thoughts on Renaissance is what I have been concerned with.

I think Renaissance sounds a fantastic place, fully international and with a great emphasis on chinese, the facilities are world class as well. I'm sure it will be fine and that it's just an opinion from an educational specialist as oppose to a parents view. Did you go to an open day and speak to other parents with children in the school? Is Clear Water Bay too far for you as its still in the catchment area for the country park?

From the country park it will take you as long if not longer to get to Shatin school as Clearwater Bay. I know many kids that travel to both Clearwater Bay and KGV from that way, they all seem to manage. The only other option is Japanese Int school, which is very expensive, but a nice school, but will take you at least 30mins to drive still, more by bus. I'm afraid that if you're moving near the country park you're just going to have to accept that its going to take you longer to get anywhere.
