I think it's a good idea to put a safety gate at the kitchen door, there's too much stuff in there that could result in a serious accident. I bought mine from Mothercare (many years ago) and my son never learnt how to open the gate. I bought ones where you actually have to screw it into the doorframe as opposed to the ones which are "fitted" as I was worried my son would be able to push the gate over.

we use a brand called lucky baby (not sure if available in HK)....it costs only SGD49 and most of my friends have them at home to keep out little ones..we all think it's great.
as for opening the gate, my 9 month old plays with the button that opens the gate...but to fully open it, you need to press and lift the whole gate...i really doubt these little people will have the strength for that or can figure it out so soon. also our gate can be locked from the outside. overall, i am optimistic it will keep them safe for sometime.

I think ours were called Lindam. My oldest didn't learn how to open them until he was about 3 years old.

For safety, it is better to install the gate on the kitchen door. I don't think it is so easy to open the gate. I bought one at Jusco at around HKD450. It could be closed automatically, however, there is an extra lock (press to lock) which is difficult for child to open as they are not strong enough to open it. In addition, there is a lock at the bottom to prevent the child to open the door.
