Drive to Tung Chung

Can anyone tell me whether you can drive your own car from Hong Kong island to Tung Chung. I seem to recall some-one saying no private cars on Lantau and don't want to try and drive and be turned back at the border!

Thank you for taking the time to reply - I guess I was getting confused with Discovery Bay and a maybe Lamma Island thrown in for good measure.

In fact, the airport side of Lantau, including Tung Chung, are fine for cars. The other side, including DBay, Mui Wo and Cheung Sha are all very strictly admitted by permit only.

FYI, the highway is dotted with speed cameras and ocassionally the police conduct speed checks; they set up a cordon near the expressway toll and nab drivers when they leave Lantau.
