Does anybody know if you can connect a notebook with a DVD rom to a TV to watch the DVD? The screen on my notebook is too small 12 inches and I have a DVD player which cannot play the DVD so instead of buying another DVD player (a china made one which I am told can play all formats), is there a way of connecting the notebook to the TV? Any advice is welcomed.

You should be able to get a VGA to S-VHS or Composite video output converter box in Sham Shui Po Apliu Street. You will also need a 3.5mm stereo headphone plug to 2 RCA stereo leads so you can get sound on the AV inputs on your TV.

The converter box will cost you about 200 - 300hkd, the 3.5mm plug to 2 rca lead and a S-VHS lead should be about 30HKD for 3 metre lengths.

1 x S-VHS lead ( or a Composite lead if your tv doesnt accept S VHS tv bigger than 27 inch usually do )

1 x 3.5mm headphone male to 2 RCA

1 x VGA to VGA monitor lead

1 x converter box

What's your brand laptop? Most new ones have some sort of TV ready output option, i.e. s-video, composite, etc.

Quality of what's been specifically built for your laptop would generally be better than using a converter.
