I have an old i book (6 plus years) that needs a new battery, does anyone know the cost of a new one, also what would I need to update it to be able to run windows programmes?

New battery would be about HK$6-800 at a guess, but go to New Vision Apple Dealers on Wellington St (Winway building) and they will sort you out. 31570979
The new macs (Intel chipped) can run windows using either bootcamp or parallels. Old macs need an emulator - the only one about is called Virtual PC. It runs windows on yr mac, but is quite slow. It used to be about HK$1200 but now might be a bit cheaper since it will probably be obsolete in the not too distant future. Might be worth getting the Mac shop to try and install it first before forking out the cash. Warning though - on an old mac it will run windows very slowly (unlike the new ones which run Windows faster than PC machines with identical specs).

Thanks ben, can you suugest an alternative? I'm giving it to someone to use but they have no Mac experience, they want it for Word processing, internet browsing etc, its got Claris works on it but I don't think the person using it will be keen on that!

If you need to run Windows for word processing, then you're in a good position. There is an excellent version of MS Office for Mac - it's actually more up to date than the current MS Windows version, so has more features (although not for long, with MS Office 2007 coming out).
If you know a student, then I believe that software is only about $700 or so. It contains Mac versions of Word, Powerpoint and Excel, and is fully compatible with Windows documents.
I know you can def get the student edition (identical to the full edition) at Wan Chai Computer Centre, but New Vision should also have that.
For web browsing and email, Mac Mail and Safari / Firefox will work fine.
