Can anyone recommend a good place to buy a Digital SLR camera, preferably on HK side where I can be sure I'm getting just about the best price without having to go through the usual haggling/ bargaining process etc?

If you know a bit about cameras (and the make/model you want to buy) already and don't need to see an expert then Fortress is as good a place as any (and better than a lot). Often you'll find that the salesmen are not the experts you might hope they'd be if you are looking for someone to help you make up your mind, but the quality (of the goods) is good and you can get a guarantee.

William's Photography in the Prince Building. Not sure if he is the cheapest, but really goes out of his way to sell you the "right" camera, rather than the one that makes him the most money. His after sales service is excellant as well.

Follow up : Went to Hing Lee yesterday evening. What a great shopping experience. Super service, ultra friendly, couldn't be better. Of course, my ego was greatly enhanced 'cos the camera he recommended in an instant was the same one that I'd worked out I wanted after weeks of research! Wasn't the cheapest about (I'd sourced one supplier in HK via e-bay which was $500 cheaper) but more than happy to pay the difference 'cos of the great service. Thanks vm for the recommendation.

Does Hing Lee lean toward any particular brand, i.e. Nikon/Canon? Are they as knowledgable about other brands (Sony/Minolta)? And do they carry used lenses and flashes?

They have a good selection of used lenses in their window - and can try to source things for you if you request.

To others, if you know what you want, you can usually get much better prices than Fortress at Citicall. The service is blah, but you'll get all the warranties, etc., and they won't try to cheat you.
As an example, I priced the external flash for my new Sony DSLR. At Fortress, it was HK$3000+. At Citicall, it was HK$2500. Same warranties, everything. Big difference in price.

Citicall quoted me exactly the same price as Hing Lee for a Nikon D40. The big smile was free :)

Despite all the above, if anyone is in the market for the Sony A100, Broadway has them way cheaper than anywhere in HK. $7290 for the 2 lens kit. Everywhere else they're at least $7990.
