Furniture order mishandling

ORIGINAL POST

Ordered some furniture (my earlier thread with name of the shop was deleted, so lets say say...from a reasonable well know shop in HK). Paid a 50% deposit, received the wrong order (not the same as the sample we saw) after 6 weeks. And to our request that the shop replace it, they are threatening to sue us! Either that, or they want us to accept the wrong order at a discounted price (why should we??!) or return everything to them! Have not encountered such unprofessional, rude service in my 4 years in HK. Anyone out there who has had the same experience...? Should we stick to our guns and not pay the balance till we get what we ordered?

Persoanally i would threaten them with the Consumer Council (but also do it) and also threaten them with the press, this usualloy gets some action.

Also see if anyone has a layer friend that will send the furniture company a letter with your intent unless the cirrect goods are received.

Should the furniture company sue you, what are they going to sue you for? They're the ones in the wrong!

Seems like a misunderstanding between you and the furniture company. I bet they would say that you rec'd what you ordered. What do you mean by getting the "wrong" order? Totally wrong items or the look is a bit different?

If the look is a bit different, you wont get far with the Consumer Council.

You could try that consumer complaints column in the SCMP? We had a similar situation when we ordered furniture to be made from one of the shops in Wan Chai. It came late, was painted haphazardly, and after much negotiations we got it painted properly then after a few weeks it started cracking because the wood wasn't dried properly. Most of the pieces have splits in them now. Buyers beware!
