Felt the 'quake?

I'm in Causeway Bay and felt some movement. (I thought it was just the ever-present constructi on.) We don't get these in Florida. (PS, I'm fully aware this is only exciting because my home is not in shambles.)

Anyway...Who else felt it where?

I'm from California. I don't feel anything smaller than 5.5 locally. ;-)

The tremors were certainly noticeable throughout HK. Individuals might not have felt them depending on what they were doing at the time, but they were certainly felt by some people in all areas of the SAR. Where I was (Hung Hom) there was a jolt and the building swayed for a couple of seconds, but that's what's meant to happen with the newer buildings as they are designed to absorb the shock. I've been in bigger quakes in NZ, but it was the swaying that got to me - a strange sensation to say the least.

There were a couple of doozies in California that scared the pants off me. I can remember 2 specific ones. The worst for me was the 1994 Northridge quake, as I was in a high-rise apartment built to "sway", right in downtown Los Angeles, near enough to the epicentre. Also, there was the Whittier Narrows Quake of 1987, when I was in a school chapel very near the epicentre, with 15 metre high walls made of adobe (mud brick). The walls were swaying so much (looked like 5 feet in either direction at the top) we were certain they would collapse. Imagine a chapel full of high-school kids scared to death! But adobe is so soft it just bends, and doesn't break. Thankfully...

Definitely felt it.

I was sitting in my living room and thought that perhaps someone was doing some rather late in the evening construction elsewhere in the neighbourhood.

That is, at first. I then felt a second 'tremor'. My boyfriend, who was on his feet organising things in the next room, didn't feel anything.

Must've been because I was sitting quietly.

Glad to know that others felt it also.

Yeah Girl, that's what I was doing (sitting quietly at the computer). My flatmate was putzing around with her infant, so she didn't feel it either.

I was at The Cavern bar in LKF watching the band when the quake hit so with all that around me no wonder I didn't feel it.

But I did feel the one that happened about 2 months ago.
