BY KCR it's 40 minutes from Hung Hom to the border at Lowu and just over HK$30, trains leaving every few minutes. Why bother with a taxi?

...but OP still has to get from Central to the KCR. That is the miserable part of the journey for those of us who don't enjoy being transported like fish in ice boxes.
Personally I take the direct minibus from Wanchai or Sheung Wan to Shenzhen, as that best balances comfort/cost imho. (Comfy, less than an hour, you'll get change out of HK$50; takes you right across the border, unlike a taxi.) And you don't get your ears assaulted by the taxi driver's music/static and his yelling into the two-way radio. But each to his own.
To answer OP, to the border by taxi it's 45-60 mins via Western Tunnel and HK$350-390 + tolls (on the meter from IFC).
