Starting solids - feeding spoons other accessories

ORIGINAL POST

Gearing up to starting bubs on solids at the end of the month and have excitedly purchased a Tripp Trapp and a box of Healthy Times!

Does anybody have any recommendations for what feeding spoons to buy ( I heard that they should be silicone for baby's delicate gums?) and what other bits and pieces will come in useful?

Thanks!

I use these red and yellow spoons that turn yellow if they get too hot - okay, a bit of a gimic, but they are the exact right size for baby's mouth.

small square baby food containers to mix the food.

That's about it to start...

Good luck, and have fun!!

the spoon that crj talks about is the tommee tippee one. used to think it gimicky but actually it's great! especially when you use the microwave when the heating is sometimes uneven. i use that spoon to stir food after it is heated everytime and i am only satisfied that the food is warm throughout when the spoon is yellow. but yellow means it's pretty hot, so you have to wait for abit before it's cool enough for baby's mouth.

bibs - get the ones with plastic backing or better yet, entirely plastic. then just rinse after use, so much easy then the cloth ones!

we used the tt spoon too, but moved onto the ones from mothercare as they were a bit thinner (bub would never open her mouth very wide so most of the food get pushed out). i actually found the best place for feeding paraphenalia is wingon

also, small squares of cloth which you can dampen to wipe baby's face with and big bibs which cover the shoulder

about bibs... the first 2 weeks, for us, more food got on the outside than inside and baby had to be fully changed and dunked in the shower... so don't hold all your hopes on bibs in the early days :)

Now they actually work for us!

Thanks ladies. Just had our central carpeting removed in the dining room in preparation for messy mealtimes.

We have a nylon 'drop cloth' we got at eugene club to put under the high chair. It is machnine washable and very handy.

But we didn't use the high chair the first few months, we used his low cloth chair at first as he wasn't really ready for the high chair initially.

we started off with the bouncy chair and when he was quite steady, we moved to the high chair.

bibs with pockets are a must for us too.

we also bought a weaning set from mothercare, good spoons, big suction bowl, storage pots.

bowls - get one with a wide base because that will cool food down quicker.

be prepared that baby might need a shower after meals!

Spoons

I was at ToysRUs today and they had a pack of 6 colour changing (with heat) spoons for HKD29. This is the same price it costs for two similar spoons from more well known brands.

Anyway, we got a pack as with four meals a day two spoons was getting hard!
