How to start recycling in my apartment block

Has anyone - as a tenant rather than owner - got any experience in getting their apartment block to start separating and recycling waste in their building?

I know exactly what I'd like residents in my building (in Happy Valley) to be doing - but have only recently moved in AND I don't speak Cantonese.

Any suggestions on how to get this started without becoming the tree-hugging activist gweilo that other residents avoid (or my landlord begins to dislike)?
