Have any of you had experiences where your flat is negatively impacted by development, and what have you done about it? Do tenants have any rights in HK, or is it a culture where the owners can pretty much do as they choose?

we had something similar where our there was significant renovation going on outside of our building - and so we just went to him and explained that we didn't like what was going on as it was ruining our view. He was very kind, agreed, and we negotated several thousand off of our monthly rent.

I would try that recourse. He's not going to remove them - but perhaps you can get some money out of it in the meanwhile.

Ugh, that's precisely the avenue I don't want to take. My rent is covered by my employer; I won't get anything out of it except a compromise in the quality of my flat. My employer will get a smaller rental bill.
