I just had a job offer in HK retracted. I had confirmation with salary figures and conditions etc confirmed via email. Unluckily for me someone decided to then do an internal hire and retracted my job! Question: do I have any legal grounds to ask for compensation? This has caused much distress to my family and I and, this very large MNC (one of the largest in the world) shouldn't be able to act in such a slack way.
Maybe I should just drop it, but any advice would be well received.
thx

Yes and no, bascially I have held off on renewing my lease, getting a new helper and not putting my kids in school but if I wouldn't have been so diligent then it would have cost me.

Either you were hired - ( meaning that the Employment Ordinance and the "contract" applies if you were) or you were NOT. This would be determined in the documents and facts arising from the matter and quite impossible to opine on meaningfully otherwise. . If you were "employed" then the contract (or failing that) the usual provisions under the Ordinance apply and payment made by the employer accordingly.
We suggest that you come into our offices for an initial consultation (cost of HK$2,500) armed with all the emails and documents you have on the matter....
