i have just purchased a new ibook 13" to replace my old one and also a samsung 32" LCD mon and would like someone to tell me how to use the LCD mon as my computer mon. i bought the apple vga dvi adapter when i bought the ibook and got it home to find out that the DVI is female as is the LCDs and the VGA does not even plug in to the i book. i have spent days in mac forums reading about this "common" issue and have only ended up more confused. i really need someone who knows about macs to explain clearly what i need to buy to make it work. i know it does but not sure how.

i have taken photos of all relevant conections and can supply them to anyone that can help me.

alternativly if you can recomend someone that does know i would also be very greatfull.

If it's 13 inch, it's a MacBook, not an iBook.

The MacBook doesn't have VGA out. It has Mini DVI. If your monitor is DVI then you need the Apple Mini DVI to DVI adapter. The DVI-VGA adapter is for connecting a VGA monitor to your DVI MacBook.

problem solved.

i exchanged my adapter for a mini DVI to VGA female adapter (apple product) and purchased a male to male VGA cable as my Samsung LCD has a VGA input. i had thought about trying to use the hdmi input but the macbook does not support hdmi. only the powerbook has this capability and wish i had bought one of them now. grrr.

all i had to do then was conect up the cables and turn on the tv first to make sure it accepts the macbook.

all working fine now and i can view video itunes, i photo etc on the tv while browsing on the mac. it basically gave me two screens and they run simultaneously. very handy.

thanks for your advice and i hope this is usefull to someone else
