Does anyone know if you can buy British Airways approved Britax infant car seats in HK?
We are due to fly BA with our 1 yr old in Mar and have been told that we cannot pre-book the Britax seat. This is crazy.
We are thinking of buying an economy seat for our little girl and getting the approved Britax seat so she can sleep during the flight.
The ideal solution would obviously be for BA to let you pre-book the infant seat if you are sitting at the bulk head and use the bassinet position rather than buying a extra seat - why would you want to take the risk of there not being one and having to have your baby on your lap the entire 12 hr flight!!! - argh.
Maybe a way of forcing you to buy the extra seat?!
Anyone had experience of this? Wondering what the chances are of getting the seat if you leave it until checkin to arrange?

I believe, that if the child weighs under a certain weight (poss 15kgs or 13 kgs from reollection) then it is ok to use the bassinet. BA provide Britax car seats instead of the cardboard looking 'cots' for the use of infants in the bulkhead shelf.
As for the purchasing of these certain seats i am not sure that you can buy them.
If you buy your little one it's own economy seat then you can use ANY forward facing approved car seat.
What i would do, and have done in the past, is called BA in the UK and spoken to someone sympathetically, without losing your rag, and they generally book the bulkhead for you as well as the sleep seat for you for use on the shelf.

Thanks Totty
Do you mean when you booked your flight in HK but then rang the UK BA customer service phone number and asked them to book you the infant seat for use on the bassinet position?
My daughter is 9 months and is already too long for the cot that goes on the shelf.
Off hand do you also know which other car seats are approved for use on the actual flight seat?

Yes even though booked my flts with BA in HK i still called BA in the UK as i then knew i would be understood.
Although it is company policy to state 'first come first served', but most airlines, if you speak to an empathetic person will try and book you seats. I found this on BA website:
"British Airways has a limited number of Britax infant seats which can be booked in advance.
Ideal for ages from 6 months to 2 years, but can also be used from birth.
Adjustable to a variety of positions from horizontal to vertical.
Available for infants who weigh a maximum of 13kgs/29lbs.
Available on all longhaul flights, except in First Class on Boeing 777/767 aircraft where only carrycots are available"
"Our Britax seats are allocated on a first come first served basis at the airport or on board. You can request a carrycot by contacting your local British Airways office. If you put your request in early we'll do all we can to confirm it before you fly".
If you DO bring your own forward facing seat then it must have the following:
- 5 point restraint harness
- must not exceed the dimensions of the aircraft seat to which it will be attcahed.
I used our Maxi Cosi forward facing and it was fine.
Like i said ring the UK and explain your situation and any, if you have, obstructions you have encountered and they'll generally be very good and help you out.
Good luck!
