Hi ellie -

not yet, but almost. (one more month.) I know with my older one, at one year, she was at one nap time a day - 12:30-2:30. Woke up at 7:00ish, went to bed at 7:00ish. Foods were breakfast lunch and dinner, solids, and one mini breastfeed right before bed.

My 11 month old - still has three breastfeeds a day, although i'm almost ready to drop the 2:30. She sleeps from 7ish - 7ish, and has two naps - 9:15-9:30ish, and 12:30-2:30.

What's yours doing?

hmmm...

babies at around one should still be sleeping between 13-14 hours a day. How many hours a day total does yours have?

Bella eats pretty well. She has three solid meals, and the three breastfeeds. When she wakes up, it's a breastfeed, and then after I change and dress both girls, I head into the kitchen while both girls play around in the living room. Then Emily gets her breakfast and Bella has a multigrain rice cereal with cooked beans and pears. Also a small container of yogurt.

Lunch is usually a bunch of different vegetable cubes- today was kale, pumpkin, sweet potato and courgettes. Then I mixed in a good chunk of silken tofu and mixed it all together. Then she also had a whole mashed banana.

Then a nap. Today Bella woke up after 1.5 hours instead of the usual 2 which is fine, since she didn't wake up crying I think she slept enough. She will have a bit of breastmilk from me and then until dinner nothing.

Dinner today is the same multigrain rice congee (I make it) and an assortment of the vegetables - again it's kale, beans, pumpkin, sweet pototo and courgette. All mixed together. If she seems a bit hungry after that, she can have another portion of banana or yogurt. Sometimes she also likes a bit of cheese.

No meat yet - but after a year, I will slowly introduce it. As long as she has whole grains and legumes I don't worry too much about the meat.

Hope this is helpful!

bella is now 8.5 kg. She's still small. But she can pack it in. And I get stressed out about her size a bit -since Emily was much bigger. So I worry. Her doc tells me she's just fine, 60th percentile and not to worry.

My whole grain rice congee - if you have a pressure cooker, I just mix two cups of whatever grains I want - I like brown rice, barley, and millet, and then I add about 5 cups of water and cook it in the cooker. Then I take it off the heat and puree the whole thing.

Alternatively, you can cook the rice in the rice cooker, and then after it's cooked, boil it more in some water and then puree it with the handblender.

both girls ate like this. It's healthy - and now Emily only eats brown rice - mixed grain combination. she's just accustomed to it. but she DOES love white rice when she gets it!

Our one year old schedule:

6:30 wake up - breast feed

7:30 - breakfast - mashed papaya, mango, kiwi, mixed grains, whole fat milk, yogurt, Flax Seed Oil, Brewers Yeast

9:00 - 10:00 - morning nap

11:00 - lunch - veggies, tofu, egg yolk (M-W-F) and added jar of organic meat (turkey or chicken) baby food (T-Th - started at 11 months), yogurt

1:00 - 2:30 - afternoon nap

3:00 - snack - cheddar cheese, avocado, yogurt, cracker or hard baby cereal to practice finger food

5:30 - dinner - veggies and yogurt

6:30 - breast feed and put to bed awake

Sleeps until 6:30 am.

Our baby got his first teeth at 9 months and only started eating food with texture at about 10 or 11 months, then at 12 months all of the sudden was eating pieces of cheese, avocado, toast and pieces of turkey/chicken, etc... main meals are mashed rather than totally pureed now (and he doesn't throw up - yeah!).

We are trying to increase the thickness of food and give him more and more finger food, which he is finally getting the hang of and really enjoyes - especially cheddar cheese, rice cakes and Japanese rice crackers (the last two don't have many nutrtients or calories, but are great practice)

Our problem is he does not drink - we have tried sipppy cups and cups and he has a few sips of water or milk, but that is it.

He has a small cup with every meal, but only takes 2-5 sips. So we are aiming to increase this so I can stop the last two breast feeds (I am 7 months pregnant and want a 2 month gap before starting BF all over again!)

Hope that schedule helps a bit.

Hi crj,

When did you start giving your baby whole fat milk? Which brand do you use?

crj 19 yrs ago
Whole Fat Milk - when he turned one (earlier this week!)

We use Pura, the Australian brand.

But we still can't get him to drink water or milk... so really he is only getting it when mixed in his breakfast, about 4 tablespoons worth maybe? He has had a few sips, but *sigh* not even water interests him for too long...

My baby didnt like drinking water either. So I tried giving him coconut water since it's quite sweet and amazingly enough he loved it. He would finish 6 oz in one go. You could try that. Once he is used to drinking that you can slowly introduce water. Mine now drinks water too without any difficulty. Good Luck!

pureeing - I do a mini puree. My baby definitely eats more chunky than smooth. she liked the texture better after going chunkier instead of the super smooth stuff.

Ellie - Health Gate, although I just saw the same brand at CitySuper, but only 2 jars. It is a large glass jar with a white lid.

I have the same dilema - baby won't take bottle, cup or sippy cup or straw...

Our Dr said as long as he is wee-ing clear (not dark yellow) and regularly, he is getting enough liquid. And that with the cheese and yogurt he is getting the calcium and vitamins. So he said not to stress about it, he has proven he CAN drink, so when he is more thirsty he WILL drink.

We also add milk to his meals - just add a bit in whatever you are serving.

Hi Ellie

Actually, yes he will sometimes take a few spoons of milk.

Thanks for asking about the pregnancy, I spend less time thinking about it than the first one, and waver between being excited about #2 and terrified! ha ha

It I wasn't pregnant, I don't think I would be stopping BF in such a hurry, as it is just so easy twice a day. I am sure in another month or two he will take a cup better, but I really have to stop soon.

The LLL site had a good article on weaning which gave some good ideas.
