Does anyone know where to buy hidden camera's? Today i heard a terrible story about a nanny who shake a newborn so badly that the baby almost lost an eye! We are looking for a nanny but after this story....Our son is 3 month so how can we know if the nanny hurts him or doesn't take care of him properly, he can't tell us! So that's why i want to use hidden camera's in our apartment. Thanks in advance.

I personally think hidden cameras are not good to use. Your nanny will know you have one eventually. And, if you cannot trust her, then don't bother using her.
Letting the helper know you have a camera watching her would make her feel "not trusted", but hiding a camera in the apartment/house won't help.... you can't watch every angle and every room in the house, and the helper will bound to find out.... unless she doesn't clean the house at all.
I have heard horrible stories about nannies knowing there is a camera watching her. This one helper told my helper how she hated her employers b/c they use these nanny cameras..... and things she did to revenge on them.

Best thing to do is wait until you can find someone who has a good recommendation from someone that you trust.
I agree it is a very bad idea to live with and leave your child with someone you can't trust. Bringing that kind of negativity into your home will damage your child more by providing an unhappy environment for them. Find someone you can trust, and then trust them. Your nanny is a person with feelings and deserves to be treated as a capable person not as though she's going to fail.

Thanks for your reply, i will contact different agencies and i will ask for references maybe are the hidden cameras not such a good idea. Indeed, trust is most importent in this relationship.

best advice is- take some time off from work (if you do work), to train and monitor the abilities and experience of your new helper. If you cannot be at home all the time, ask a relative to be here for the first month to guide the new help what your standards and expectations are for caring your baby.
After your baby gets older, it's very easy to tell whether your helper is doing a good job. If you come home, and your baby looks well, and happy, then she MUST be doing something correct. After time flies a bit more, when your helper reaches her arms out to ask baby to come to her, if the baby "flocks" to her, you know your helper takes good care of the baby. Kids don't lie about who is good to them.
I know my helpers are excellent to my kids without the "hidden"cameras or anyone monitoring them. My kids look well, happy and healthy, and my kids always miss the helper a lot on their "holiday" once a week.
Trust your maternal instinct, you will know when your child is being mistreated. Whether the helper is capable or not, a hidden camera won't change anything. It's best to have someone "train" her to your needs and standards instead.
just my thoughts....

New to Hong Kong? This is an old chestnut on this Site. Children have been sheken to death in recent years and maids have been cought on camera letting the baby suck the maid's toes as a conforter while the maid chats on the phone.
Type child abuse in the search function above. Seven threads will appear, three or four of which address your concern.
