How many ounces of breast milk does a 9 month old need? I read that it is okay to have 3-4 feeds by this stage. Currently our schedule is roughly

830 bf

930 breakfast = cereal+ fruit puree

1000-10:30 nap

1030 expressed bm(2 or 3 oz)

1100 juice

1230 lunch = rice congee with meat/veggies

130 bf

3-4 nap

400 expressed bm (3 oz)

700 dinner = pureed veggies

730 bf

830 sleep

10bf

He still wakes up 3 or 4 times in the night for feeds/comfort.

I cannot track how much milk he drinks when I bf but I want to drop the 11am and 4pm expressed milk feeds since I am having difficulty pumping enough milk. Is it okay to give him some fruit juices instead? That way I wont have to stress about expressing enough milk and I can continue breastfeeding at 8:30, 1:30, 7:30 and 10:30 (plus the night feeds) He hasn't cut any teeth so am still feeding him pureed foods.

Your schedule looks good... you could try:

830 bf

930 breakfast = cereal+ fruit puree

1000-10:30 nap

1030 CHANGE TO SMALL SNACK AND WATER

1230 lunch = rice congee with meat/veggies

130 bf

3-4 nap

400 CHANGE TO WATER ADN SMALL SNACK

6:00 dinner = pureed veggies

730 bf

830 sleep

10bf

I had trouble pumping after 8 months too, it seems normal for some women to have this problem. You are doing great and seem to have a nice schedule. Too bad about the night feeds though, could you try to stop those by letting him cry 10 minutes before going to him?

Well done for breastfeeding your baby through the first year as recommended by health professionals. You are absolutely right that it is okay for your baby to have 3 or 4 breastfeeds at this age. As long as your baby has a wide variety of solid foods do not worry so much about his breastmilk intake. Any amount of breastmilk is superior and preferred rather than replacing with juice.

Do not worry about his lack of teeth, his food should no longer be pureed but soft mashed and progressing to more texture. Between 9 to 12 months food should be minced, chopped or very roughly mashed.
