Hi
We will be relocating to Hong Kong from Australia in April 07.
I have two small kids and we are trying to work out whether a car will be a nice to have or a should have..
Do the supermarkets Wellcome or Park N Shop deliver groceries to your home? Any ideas about the cost? Are they reliable?
Many thanks

The supermarkets only deliver dried goods, packets, tins, cartons etc, not fresh or frozen.
I wouldn't be without my car, you get to see a lot more of HK with a car, and parking costs are OK, haven't really gone up in the 9 years I've been here, and if you're grocery shopping you can usually get 2 hours free parking.

Eh? cd is wrong! Frozen and fresh is delivered by PnS and Wellcome.

Park N Shop and Wellcome do both deliver perishable, frozen good, dairy product etc if you shop online. However you are limited to what they have posted on their website. They usually only post one or two brands of a certain product and a certain size. Therefore if you want to have your pick of the litter you will have to go into the store and do the shopping. In that case you would have to take all perishable goods with you but they will deliver the rest.

Sorry, I've never ordered on line. But if you do your shopping in the shop, then get home delivery then they won't deliver fresh or frozen, as the lorries don't have cold storage.

Most expats (on decent budgets) order everyday necessities from Wellcome/ParknShop and anything unusual from either Olivers or CitySuper. Top quality veg is delivered to your door by Aussie Organics (website mentioned above) and top quality airfreighted Aussie fish and meat is delivered twice a week by South Stream.

Fantastic Aussie wines are at Boutique Wines in Horizon Plaza, Ap Lei Chau - tho at different prices to what you're used to, due to massive taxes (is it 100%?) on wine in HK.
The supermarket deliveries in HK are amazingly efficient: order on the website before lunch and it will be delivered the same day.

Hi Avoca,
We moved here in October and I now generally order my groceries homr deliverede from Wellcome and have found to be quite good.
We don't have a car as yet and the public transport here is so good i've had no trouble getting around, even with 2 young children.

Hi,
How funny!! Not quite North Avoca but I'm from Erina and my husband from Niagara Park. Our families are still there.
When are you moving here? We will have to catch up. How old are your kids?? Perhaps we could set up some play dates.
Re the car, we will probably get a car at some stage. I'm working up to braving the roads here. The driving style is a little different from home!
