I hope someone here has the experience and answers I am looking for. The situation: I am American, wife is Chinese. I've always known that our son was/is an American citizen. We recently aquired his American Birth Certificate and American Passport.
Here is the problem. We are planning our first trip as a family back to the U.S. Our son, being born in China, needs an 'exit visa' before he can leave. Now this does not look to be a problem in itself. What bothers me is that in order to get this exit visa, he must give up any/all documents that currently allow him the benefits of his "Chinese Status." I.E. he loses his chinese I.D. #, his name is removed from the Chinese family book.
Basicly he loses the ability to utilize the Chinese school system, medical system, and other things of this nature. Now, I realize it comes down to policy and politics here. But, I have to let it be known, I am not an Expat. I'm a simple foriegner here. So, any break and or loophole that I can benefit from here is more than helpful.
No matter the outcome, we are proceeding with our trip and if we have to give up his Chinese status, so be it. I am reaching out for others answers and guidence to find a solution to this delima. Thank you for anything you all can do or say about this.

no loop holes exactly. But, in some of the research I did, I noticed that Chinese may very well allow a "Dual" Status from two countries. Canada and Indonesia. Not sure why it is only these 2 but I am certain that I read about it in my search. I will try to reply with a link a little later. (Providing I can find it again)
I can say this much. America does recognize dual citizenship. China still says it is against the law. But, we did manage to get my son's business sorted and he will be traveling as I had hoped.
I'll search for that link and return to post later. Good luck.

It is on page 5 and is part of the "Bilateral Treaty" Here's another link with the same information:

Do a 'GOOGLE' search and type Chinese Dual Citizenship. Will take you right to it
