My bub hates taking medicine. It's some sweet syrup so doesn't taste bad but she knows no matter how I give it to her and spits out. I have tried to give by a medicine dropper, aiming at inside cheek, and mixed with some formula. Either way, she takes some but spits out most or refuse to drink. She hasn't started on solids, so cannot mix with foods. Does anyone have a brilliant idea? I really n eed to give her medicine as she's got bronchilitis.

Have you tried using a syringe and just aiming it at the back of her throat.
I know this is going to sound really horrible but when mine where small i would give it to them on a spoon and hold their mouths shut until they'd swallowed it. When they had done i used to make a big deal, know no worries.

With our baby, we lay him down on his back and are sure he is relaxed, then we use the syringe that comes with the baby medicine and put a little at a time in the back of his mouth.. he swallows, we put more in.. never all at once. Then we follow with a breast feed.
Hope your baby is feeling better soon!

Thank you very much for all your quick replies! I will try all of the above until she takes it successfully. Yes, Daddy long legs, I am quite soft about it and may need more determination!

hi,
we use a syringe and feed little by little because baby sometimes holds it all in his mouth and spits it all out once you think the coast is clear!
not sure if you have to pin kid down and hold the nose, etc. but you do have to be firm. what i do is cradle baby as i would do when bottle feeding but the key is to grip his free hand so that he doesn't use it to push the syringe away.

Hi Scot, having failed all the suggested methods, I should try your suggestion. Water! She is exactly the same...I tried with syringe this morning, bit by bit...it seems she drank half of it, but then she vomited later. It seems, though, her symptom is becoming milder...after all, I may not have to give medicine anymore..haha. But it would be a problem when it is something more serious.

I used Medibottle when my son was younger (www.medibottle.com). I think Dr Eunice Wong in Central used to sell it.

Wow, Medibottle seems very goood, turtle1 !
Green, I haven't tried that but will do next time. It sounds like a good trick. She loves being blown on her face.
Scot, I tried water, and it worked!!!!! She drank it no problem....it is a mystery.

It's no fun at all giving medicine to a little one, is it? They have no idea what is going on, are scared, hate the taste....
I couldn't do any of the traumatic approaches, too soft I guess. What worked for me was enlisting my husband or helper to hold her and hold her arms down, while I dealt with the syringe, aiming for the back and outside her gums/teeth (less hitting the taste buds) and hold her mouth closed until she swallowed. And I'd make sure her head wasn't so far back she'd choke on the stuff. It'd take two or three squirts and swallows, but it'd always go down. She hated it, tasted foul compared to milk, but she wasn't traumatized and now that she's older, I can talk her through it and it's all much smoother. I haven't needed a helper for eons.

My thoughts, how old is your daughter now? Has she had a laot of conditions that she needs medicine? It is not fun at all to have a sick baby, though probably a few colds will probably make her stronger. Luckely she recovered in a week, and now ready to make a trip to Japan to see her grandma.

Mine's 3 1/2 now macron mania...but medicine memories live on. No, she hasn't needed much medicine, decongestant a few times. Her liquid vitamins (polyvisol) she's always drunk happily diluted with water in her sippy cup, interesting how many others have had similar success with diluting.
I've forgotten how old yours is, but mine's been on a cod liver oil supplement (nordic naturals)since one year, I keep giving it the credit for her healthy immune system :-) (Shouldn't be given before a year)
Have fun in Japan.
