I am going on an extended trip to Tokyo and will need cash while I'm there (usually just go in/out and put everything on credit card). I've heard it is hard to find ATMs in Tokyo that take non-Japan cards. Can someone help me understand how hard it is going to be to get cash? I have an HSBC ATM card issued in Hong Kong. I don't like taking cash on my Visa or Mastercard because they charge crazy interest rates from the minute you withdraw. Can any one tell me what the scoop is on ATMs in Tokyo. Thanks.

You were told very accurate information.
Here is a list of banks that accept most overseas ATMs.

Also check with your colleagues in Japan (if you are working there) as they might know one close to your office. For example, there is one in Mori Tower, but it is so hidden you will never find it unless someone takes you!

Just bring enough cash and use credit card. It's the most convenient. In Japan, it's quite safe even to travel with more cash. I just keep the extras in the hotel safe.
