Going from GZ to USA in March. Anyone know latest luggage regulations? What about toiletry containers? What is allowable and not? Heard people are having to throw away personal toiletries due to containers. Hard to get on internet and get this information lately.

No liquid or cream of any kind, not even toothpaste, lightweight hand-carry allowed like coat, magazines, candies, chewing gum.

Thorough check of hand-carry luggage by airline personnel.

This is from my experience, went to the U.S. last November.

You can check in the the airlines websites for latest updates for the cabin/carryon luggage and checked luggage limits.Changes get relaxed as compared to last yr.

For carryon luggage, important to remember that the container is the measurement.

Example: don't take along a 150ml toiletries container even though the liquid/gel is 70ml only. You can take a couple of bottles, provided it can all go into the 1 Quart zip bag.

Recommend that you view Cathay Pacific website which has a short film on the dos and donts.

From NorthWest - "Liquids, gels, lotions or similar items in containers of 3.4 ounces/100 ml or less must fit comfortably in ONE, QUART-SIZE, clear plastic, zip-top bag if in carry-on luggage".

Toiletries samples are the best size and keep the empty containers for next trip!

Review the limit for checked baggage as some airlines had reduced it.

Example: NWest airlines - 2 luggage of 23 kg each for economy class . Other airlines still allow 32 kg per bag x 2.

I was caught by suprise on this, when my daughter returned back to school last Sept. She had excess luggage weight due to the tight rule on carryon luggage, so she dumped everything into the checked bags.

American carriers are (or have already completed) switching to 23kg limit - United is especially vicious about it. Pretty soon they will be charging you to have your bags loaded as well. My experience has been that non-US carriers offer better service, better connections, and often better prices. They even give you metal forks and knives for your meals (shudder, dull knives in the hands of terrorists - gasp!!!)
