I am a British woman who is currently working in Moscow. An opportunity has come up to move to Hong Kong - but what i really need to know is what is it really like to live as a single woman in Hong Kong. Moscow is pretty difficult, what is Hong Kong like?

Probably quite good if you don't mind the pollution.

If you are opened to a culture differ from where you came from, which I'm sure you're, you can have a blast here in HK.

What are the people like? Language difficulties? I love Moscow for many reasons, but the language barrier can make things tough, even though I am taking lessons. I love and hate Moscow, the most difficult thing is that it is a very draining city. You have to put a lot of effort into just going to the supermarket.....hmmm now i am sounding extremely lazy!!! I hope you get what i mean :)

I have many friends from Moscow and St. Petersburg, they would MOVE to HK to live anytime.... (they have visited here of course, on more than one occasion).

I have a friend who left HK to go to Moscow and misses HK so much she'd return in an instance. Myself I have a few single friends here and as long as you are prepared to talk to people and go along to any social events to meet people, you'll make some good friends in no time at all. I met some friends through asiaxpat some 6 years ago and a few of us are still in touch and get together.
Food shopping is easy, even Brtish foods can be found in supermarkets such as CitySuper, Great, Olivers and 360. Apart from my friends and family there is not a lot I miss about the UK. Transport is cheap - taxis running all night so what ever hour you can get home (unlike the UK). Lots of hikes, fab food, nice beaches..... What more can I say.....

its a good move, after Moscow..leave the winter clothes behind. Language not an issue here. you can learn cantonese if you wish. As Maz27 said, you can meet people here, you just have to get out and do it. Can you arrange a look see, trip before deciding ? Apartments are small, and expensive, so check your budget, look at some of the rentals on this site for some ideas. Excellent transport system, public bus, MTR ( underground) and taxi's are inexpensive. Good medical facilities, hospital ect. Great restaurants with lots of choice, can be expensive or lower range, depends on you.
Good luck

For a female, it is a very safe city.

And it's a very easy city to live in. Transport, shopping, (food, clothes, gadgets, restaurants, bars - everything) all too frighteningly handy and close to where you live/work/play, so it's also very easy to spend everything you earn! Come over and give it a go - I'm sure you'll love it.
