This was taken from a post at another forum: "I had a friendly chat today with a representative of Zhonghua Trading Co., importer of foreign publications, and while I could buy any other Lonely Planet, the China guidebook is banned. No one gets the go-ahead from the Censorship authority to import it." So, I guess importers are allowed to import western books on their approved list, that's all. Evidentally, since Sept. of 2006, the Chinese Lonely Planet is banned in China, because they colored Taiwan a different color in the map that comes with it.

Is the question one of whether shops selling second-hand books are illegal? Surely not. Or is there something to be read between the lines?
