Does any one know where I can go to get an electric currency converter or transformer to use for North American appliances?

Just missed one that was listed for sale on the Trade Post and need one... Thanks!

Since no one has replied yet .... Any 220/110 step down transformer should work - assuming you get one big enough for the load. The issues you will face are that cycles do not change - so timer-based devices that are cycles sensitive will run fast (clocks for example). There is a slight heat issue because of cycle differences, but I don't recall which way it is an issue, and I have never had problems with overheating with the 110 appliances that I have run overseas. If you are looking to run a NA tv, if may work for NTSC videos, but forget local broadcasts - I believe HK uses PAL (but could be mistaken).

Since I am in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, I can't advise you on KH. However, an iron will draw a lot of power, as may a vacuum - that means a heavy duty stepdown transformer. Go to a big electronics shop - they probably won't have transformers, but they should be able to direct you.

My husband and I were able to find a larger transformer on an electronics street in Guangzhou. (The stalls/stores on the street sold parts for all sorts of electronic items, cables, etc...) The one we bought looks to be about half the size of a car battery, and I think we only paid around 150 yuan for it. We went to a hotel and explained what we needed, and got them to write the name of it in Chinese. I'm sure you can find something similar in Hong Kong...
